Student Employment is the opportunity for CC students, enrolled at least half-time each semester, to earn wages for education and living expenses by working jobs on campus.  华体会 funds departments’ ability to pay for student employees through state and federal work-study fund allotments as well as institutional dollars. Students are paid hourly and their wages are provided to them in biweekly paychecks (either via mail or direct deposit).

Work study is a need-based financial aid award provided to eligible CC students as part of meeting their calculated financial need to attend 华体会.  Work-Study awards typically assume a student will work minimally 5-7 hours per week in a 9-month period during the traditional academic year. Students who choose not to work a campus job to earn their awarded work-study wages must come up with other means of funding their expenses.  All students working on campus are considered student employees but not everyone is a work-study student.

Getting A Job

Yes. Without work study you may apply to work in any on-campus, student hourly position.

You can search and apply for jobs on Handshake. Check out the "Find a Job" webpage. 华体会 does not place students in positions.

If you are not being successful in your job search (after casting a wide application net), the Office of Student Employment recommends that you meet with the CC’s Career Center staff to review you resume, cover letter, and interviewing skills.

Timesheets & Pay Checks

Missing a timesheet submission deadline will result in you being paid late. For now, the timesheet is not available, but it will re-open after payday. Since you missed the deadline, you will have to wait until after payday when the timesheet reopens to make changes. Once approved, the late timesheet will be paid out on the next available scheduled pay day. Timesheet deadlines and payroll schedule can be found at the Student Employee Toolkit online. Please note: It is not acceptable to add hours worked from a previous pay period to another time sheet. This will be considered falsification of a timesheet and is a crime of fraud in the state of Colorado. Any student who falsifies a timesheet will be suspended from student employment.
After the submission deadline is passed students lose access to their past-due timesheets until after pay day. Wait until after payday (often the 15th and last day of every month, but these dates changes) then you will be able to access your timesheet again, make any edits, and submit a late timesheet. Timesheets that are submitted late are paid late at the next pay day, approximately two weeks later.
There are two ways to receive a paycheck. First, paychecks are sent to your banking account directly if you opt in to direct deposit. When you turn in new student employment paperwork there is a paper where you can fill in your bankings details and opt in for direct deposit. If you need to make any changes to the direct deposit account or opt-in, you will need to come into the Financial Aid and Student Employment office (Spencer Center, Room 134) and pick up a new direct deposit form, then bring it to the payroll office, Room 207 also in the Spencer Center. Second, if you choose NOT to opt-in to direct deposit, a physical paper check will be sent to your CC mailbox.
Yes, work study and student employment earnings are taxable. The income you earn is subject to federal income tax. If you are a full-time student, you are exempt from paying Social Security and Medicare taxes (FICA taxes).

As an enrolled student, you can access your W-2 on Banner SSB if you opted-in to receive your W-2 electronically. If you did not, the W-2 will be sent to your CC mailbox.

If have graduated or no longer attend CC, your W-2 will be sent to the home mailing address we have on file. You may also contact the Payroll Office to obtain your W-2 another way.

Yes, Colorado is an at-will employment state.

Students who elect to stop working at their current position for any reason are encouraged to give their supervisor at least one week's notice. It is your supervisor’s responsibility to communicate with the Student Employment Office to end your job on Banner; however, if your supervisor for the job you quit forgets, you will still see a timesheet. In this case, please reach out to the Student Employment Office so that we can end your job. More information regarding terminations is in the Student Employment Handbook which can be found at the Student Employment Toolkit online.
Yes. For each hour a student logs on their timesheet, they accrue 0.0333 hours of paid sick leave. So for every 30 hours, a student works in a position, they accrue one hour of paid sick leave. Paid sick leave can be used ONLY when a student is sick and cannot attend regularly scheduled shifts. This means you can't use it to be paid on a day you are not scheduled to work. Also, you must be sick on the day you are supposed to work if you want to use paid sick leave. Students cannot use more sick time than they already accrued. The Student Employment Handbook has further, eligible reasons a student employee may use paid sick leave.
Yes, international students can work without an SSN once their paperwork is submitted to the Student Employment Office AND they have a timesheet for the job they are working in. You have one month from your first day logging hours in your on-campus job to follow the ISSS’s Obtaining an SSN instructions (found on the CC website). Once you receive the SSN Card in the mail you MUST bring the physical card to the Student Employment Office ASAP. If you plan on receiving your SSN Card late, you MUST communicate with the Student EMployment Office and follow any further instructions. More information can be found at the International Student EMployment tab on the CC website.

Students are NOT permitted to work virtually, aka remotely, outside Colorado! Students may not work remotely/virtually from their home, vacation residence, or any on-location site outside of Colorado at any time. Non-compliance may result in termination of the student's job and possible revocation of student hiring privileges for the supervisor and/or department involved. Students can complete work remotely, as approved by a supervisor, while physically on-campus or in Colorado.
